No interference even though I have too many wifi networks in my condo building to count; a wireless phone as well.

I had a little trouble adjusting the light level in the nursery in order to get the night vision to kick in. Daytime was to bright even with the blackout shades pulled. Once I blocked any additional light I could find, the night vision kicked right in.

The sound auto clips at a certain low volume, so you don’t hear everything. I’m okay with this, but my wife would prefer to hear everything.

Batteries on the cameras and monitor last long enough, although I usually leave them plugged in. A USB port allows for additional charging options; I guess if you move the camera around, you could use a phone charger that has Mini USB…

Customer Reviews

Okay Product, but Needs more work – JOHN S HENNERFEIND –
Overall this product does what is advertised, however using it leaves a lot to be desired. To begin with, the vendor/distributor Safe Baby is one of the best companies I have dealt with. They shipped the product quickly, it worked out of the box, and when I found it didn’t meet my needs, they were very helpful and quick with the return.

We recently had twins, and quickly tired of running into their room (currently same room) to see if they spit up/needed cleaned up, or were just fussing. We purchased the product in hopes that we could replace our audio monitor, but still have the ability to see what was going on without running back to their room.

The product itself has a relatively clear picture, even in low/no light. It feels cheaply built, but acceptable. I had my cameras near to the babies, so it illuminated them well even in complete darkness. One factor I had not considered was that as infants/preemies, we have to alternate how they face to avoid flat spots, that affects where you mount the cameras if you want to look closely, so keep that in mind. I ended up putting the camera above them, so although I could not see their face well, I could see enough no matter which way they were facing. This diminished its usefulness, but still was okay. I didn’t have problems with range, but I was within 50 feet.

The product does also zoom, but not very effectively. You can choose a zone to zoom to, but that affects all cameras for the same zone, and zooming/moving the zoom, and zooming out is a very slow process.

For two cameras, the product will alternate between them automatically. You can set the interval up to 15 seconds, which I found was just barely enough time. When the cameras switch, the new camera switches on, then takes a moment to determine the light level/turn on the infrared, then adjusts the strength of the light, then you can see. All of this takes several seconds, leaving you with a mere 5 seconds to see how the baby is doing, then it switches again. This was not acceptable, so I switched to manual.

Manual switching can be accomplished via a menu (takes a while to switch cameras – not acceptable) or you can repurpose the volume to switch. I used the volume to switch since I change the volume level less frequently. While this allowed for better viewing of the babies, only the current monitor gives sound, and turning back on the automatic rotation is a pain, meaning my old audio monitor must stay (the camera would pickup the other baby in the room, but at too low a volume). Manual switching also tended to fail – saying the camera you were switching to wasn’t there, switching again resulted in success, but was annoying when you wanted to quickly switch (and then wait 10 seconds to see anything).

All of this took longer than just getting up to check on them, so we returned the product. With older children, they would likely be more useful (less did they spit up, more are they awake/moving around), but the slow switching is still problematic. We own a ranch, so the walk is short, in a large house it may be more useful (but more issues with range).

A great video monitor – P.Friend –
After reading the pros and cons of reviews on different monitors we decided to give this one a shot. It seemed that they may have solved most of the issues others have not. We have loved the video monitor since we received it.
The video quality is great during the day and at night, and the audio quality to good too. There is a slight delay that others have mentioned, but any digital monitor will have to have some delay. The delay is very short, and not bothersome to us at all.
I would highly recommend getting these video monitors.
(My only complaint would be that the monitor would look a bit more trendy without the colorful “Baby Safe” logo in large print on it.)

Meets all expectations – –
Only negatives: (1) Short camera battery life – about an hour when using night vision. Less than two hours in daylight. Camera performs flawlessly on A/C power. 120V adapter and USB cable included with the camera. (2) user interface could be better – less navagating through menus. Monitor battery life is good. All use Lithium Ion batteries.
Overall, we are very pleasd. No interference with our wireless G network. Great reception. Our home is three stories wiht several internal brick walls. The monitor has great reception even from opposite corners of the house. Excellent audio sensitivity. Excellent video quality. Ships with camera mounting brackets that also make great stands.

We started researching monitors before my son was born and received this as a shower gift. We had seen the negative reviews here, but MIL bought it because of good reviews on consumer reports, so we decided to give it a shot.
It has been decent-enough for the past 6 months we’ve used it. As with any product there are features that you care about and others that don’t matter as much. And it sounds like there are lots of monitors out there that people think are terrible. These are my 2cents on what to know about this product before you buy.

Having two stations is great. We keep one upstairs and one downstairs in the kitchen/living area.
There is a wide range of audio levels to choose from. We started out having it on full blast and have gradually reduced the volume over time as we’ve become more comfortable. I haven’t tried the vibe feature at all. It does a good job of keeping out white noise from fans or humidifiers, etc.

It was very easy to set up and we haven’t had any issues with interference or overhearing anyone else’s conversations. We are in a townhome community without any other kids nearby, so this wasn’t a big concern, but we do like the security of the digital technology.

We have two cell phones, a wireless home telephone system w/4 phones, two separate wireless routers (one for personal and one for work) and a wireless printer. Sometimes there is clicking for no apparent reason. Perhaps this is interference with our wireless gear. It goes away on its own, but is pretty annoying because we can’t stop it. This is mostly on the downstairs unit.

Also, sometimes the downstairs unit (but never the one in the bedroom) starts beeping and flashing red (as if the battery is about to die) for no apparent reason when it is on the base and fully charged. It’s like the unit isn’t fully seated in the charging base. This usually happens in the middle of the night and I’ve come downstairs to turn it off a few times. The beeping is loud! Now we usually just turn off the downstairs monitor before heading up to bed.

Whenever we lose power for a brief moment (summer storms), the child unit automatically shuts off and the receiving units start beeping loudly because there isn’t a signal. Took a minute to figure out what happened the first time. I think you can put a battery back up in the child unit to avoid this.

The clip is useless. I tried to use it once or twice but it always falls off almost immediately. The audio is loud enough anyway if it’s in the same room with you.

All that said, we just bought a video monitor (Summer Infant Best View) now that he’s starting to move around fairly well, roll over, etc. We want to see him as he becomes a toddler and is prone to being more mischievous. Now that I have something to compare with, it makes it easier to appreciate certain things about the Graco.

1) Having two parent units is very nice but not totally necessary.

2) The audible “I’m about to turn off because the battery is dead” warning beep is very, very nice. The Summer just goes dead without any warning. So you have to be sure that it is plugged in at night. No big deal except that the instructions explicitly state not to keep it charging all the time or risk ruining the battery. You’re supposed to run it completely dead before re-charging. This takes more planning, and we leave it on more often even when he isn’t sleeping just to run the battery down during the day.

3) The mic on the Summer is much more sensitive. We can hear him sucking his thumb and sighing now, which is taking some getting used to, and I think it’s a little too much especially since we can see him.

Customer Reviews

Great monitor so far!! – jesbu – Albuquerque
I bought this monitor in Target because I wanted something that would reach far (we have a 3500 sq foot single story house) and that wouldn’t interfere with internet, microwave, phone, etc…Then I read all the negative reviews on it and debated taking it back unopened but decided to keep it because it is the only one that promised it would not interfere and it had one of the longest reaches. So far I have not been disappointed. I can hear my baby breathe while I’m outside 10 feet away from the house on the opposite side from her room with all the doors closed. It has minimal background static. We can operate all of our electronics without causing interference. We haven’t used it over night yet so I’m not sure about the battery life. All in all, so far I would definitely recommend it.

Baby monitoring system – John Alexander –
We have been very happy with system thus far. We don’t have any young children any more. I am in my 60’s, and am a bedridden quadriplegic. On Sundays, we have a Home Church, in our home. Since I am unable to be in the service, I use the monitor to at least hear the service. The second receiver works well in “cry room” for the nursing mothers. There is a strong, clean signal.

Thanks,

John & Joan

Works well, I don’t understand all the bad reviews! – Kt633 – Michigan, USA
I don’t usually review things, but I felt like I needed to review this one because after I got it for a shower gift I was really worried about all the negative reviews that I have seen about this monitor. It has been great for us! Good battery life, no blinking red lights, good sound, small enough to fit in your pocket, never looses reception. My son is 5 months old and we have used it every day of his life and never had one problem (knock on wood, knock on wood). We like that the base can be put anywhere and runs off of batteries if you need it too. (Really convenient when we lay him in the pack and play in the living room and we want to go outside for yard work). The vibration is a good option if you’re doing something that you would not be able to hear the monitor, like mowing the lawn or something. We don’t use it for anything else. We usually keep the monitors on their bases, because if you turn them up, you can hear them from a couple rooms away. There is really no need to wear these things unless you’re outside or you live in a really big house. So, maybe that’s why we haven’t run into any battery issues.

Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5″ Screen – Blue Review

A number of people told me that having a video monitor was unnecessary and kinda made me feel silly for wanting one for my first baby, but I am SO glad we have it and that we picked this one. My baby has had some health issues, including acid reflux, and being able to see his behavior when sleeping has been very helpful in gauging how he’s feeling and if his medications should be adjusted and whatnot. Even when he slept in his bassinet in our room, I used this monitor so I wouldn’t have to get out of bed to check on him (I’m blind without my glasses.) I could just roll over and look at the monitor even though it was dark in our room. I also love being able to see how cute my baby is when he’s sleeping. He sleeps on him tummy now with his butt in the air, and it’s just so adorable. It’s also very nice when we’re watching TV, we can have the volume completely down and still be able to monitor him visually. I also use it when I shower so I can keep an eye on my baby and not worry that I can’t hear him.
My only complaints are the somewhat poor range on the monitor. You can get static (both audible and visual) in certain parts of our 2,000 sq ft home. But, if I just turn it one way or the other, it usually goes away. Also, my baby sleeps with a fan in his room and I wish the microphone had a gate on it that would allow you determine how sensitive the microphone is. But it doesn’t have one, so at night we have to hear the whir of the fan through the monitor. It doesn’t sound horrible and I sleep with a fan too, so the sounds just blend together.
One thing to keep in mind is how easy it is to adjust the volume on this brand. I noticed that some of the other styles have menus you have to go into to adjust the volume and I think that would be very annoying.
This monitor is awesome and well worth the money.

Quick and Easy Operation
The two-channel Deluxe Day & Night monitor installs in just minutes without any tools, so you can enjoy the benefits of wireless video and audio monitoring right away. Compact and lightweight, the monitor can then be attached to the included belt clip or simply placed on any flat surface (a stand is included). You can also use the included mounting hardware and mount it to a wall.

Once installed, the 900MHz camera transmits clear pictures and sounds to the video monitor with ranges up to 350 feet (clear line of sight) and 100 feet (obstructed). And it’s a snap to add up to two more cameras (sold separately) if you wish to simultaneously monitor more rooms, an option that’s especially convenient as your family grows.

Crystal Clear Reception
This handheld monitor utilizes the latest FM band technology to provide crystal clear reception. It also has a large, 2.5-inch, high resolution, full-color LCD display and LED sound lights. Most importantly, this monitoring solution avoids interference caused by other 2.4 GHz devices commonly found in the home–like 2.4GHz cordless phones and wireless 802.11 computer networks–so you won’t have to worry about excessive static.

Keep Track of Baby at Night
One of the most helpful and unique features of the Deluxe Day & Night monitor is its night-vision capabilities, which allow parents to check up on their sleeping baby without disturbing his or her rest. Nine built-in infrared LEDs permit the camera to view clear images within a distance of up to six feet in total darkness.

Another night-time option is to turn off the video button and choose the audio-only option. A super sensitive microphone built into the camera alerts sleeping parents that their baby is making noises, crying or moving around in his or her crib.

Longlasting and Reliable
This sleek plastic monitor comes with rechargeable batteries that lasts up to 10 hours. It also boasts a power-saver feature that times out after three minutes when running on the battery. For added convenience, external audio/video outputs provide connections to existing video recorder or home television, and you can even purchase headphone jacks for private monitoring.

What’s in the Box
Video camera with transmitter, handheld monitor with receiver, two AC power adapters, rechargeable battery pack for monitor, wall-mount bracket and hardware for camera, belt clip and stand for monitor, and user’s manual.

Customer Reviews

LOVE the products; LOVE*ED* the company – Heather – Washington State, USA
We’ve been very happy with this product & have actually sent it back to the company at least once because the cord-to-receiver socket was becoming weak & falling out; this was a very positive & painless experience with Summer Infant! Those problems would have been big problems had they gone unresolved but because they were resolved right away, I can say it was just a hiccup (2 wks w/o a monitor due to shipping turn-around time) in our ownership. HOWEVER, we’ve since misplaced the cord to our receiver & I would like to buy a replacement one. I thought this would be a simple request; after all, this is the company that could make families purchase a whole second set-up for a second child but instead offers the money saving option of only adding an additional camera! What brilliant customer service! Much to my dismay, I can’t get Summer Infant to return my phone calls or emails. I’d be satisfied if they contacted me simply to say they can’t sell replacement parts-I just want to hear from them! It’s been about 2 months now of contacting them off & on…& no word from Summer Infant. I’m scanning craigslist because this is our last child & I don’t want to buy a whole new product at full price just use it a few months. It’s such a great product I thought we’d see 5yrs of use with it! Definitely buy (& register!) the product-just don’t lose the pieces!

Love watching my baby, but a few issues – Charlotte Calvert –
I ordered my Summer Infant Day & Night Color Video Monitor w/ 2.5 inch screen on May 19, 2010. At first, it worked beautifully! Do keep in mind that the “color” video only works when the room is well lit. For night viewing, the video is black and white. We had clear video and great audio. There were (and still are) definite interference issues, with static rippling across the screen and coming out over the speaker, but it usually just takes some repositioning to get it to stop. The interference rarely bothers us at night, thankfully.

One thing about the way the controls are set up: The brightness dial operates the way I expect it to, but the volume dial does not. To get the video brighter, I turn the dial up; to turn the brightness down, I turn the dial down. With the volume, however, to turn the volume up, I have to turn the dial down and vice versa. I still forget about that in the middle of the night if I have to adjust the volume, so I wish the volume dial operated the same way the brightness dial does.

Another thing I wish is that, when the monitor is running on battery power, the unit didn’t go into battery-saving mode automatically. It only keeps the video turned on for about 3 minutes, then shuts the screen off to save the battery, so if you want continuous video (even at the expense of battery life) you have to keep hitting the video on/off button to turn it back on. I wish there were a switch by that button where we could select battery saver mode vs. continuous video.

In mid-July, I started having problems with the monitor. Every time I plugged it in, the video would get distorted, the vertical sync out of whack so we’d have such rapid horizontal scrolling that the image was unreadable. The longer the unit was plugged in, the longer it would take for the image to stabilize. It did this even when the battery was completely run down. I contacted Summer Infant on July 19, and they shipped me a replacement AC adapter the next day by UPS Ground. It arrived July 27 and sadly did nothing to fix the problem. I contacted them again, and they immediately offered to send me a full replacement monitor setup as soon as they received my current unit. They had UPS email me a prepaid shipping label the next day, and when they received my shipment they had UPS send me a shipping notice for my replacement unit. It arrived August 12. For the most part, this unit is working fine. Sometimes the video on/off button doesn’t respond right away, but it does eventually, so for now I’m satisfied.

I do appreciate that Summer Infant’s customer service shipped me the replacement unit for free and even sent me a prepaid shipping label so I could send my original unit back at no cost to me. I do wish, however, that they’d shipped my replacement package at the same time that they sent me the prepaid label (with the option of charging my credit card if I didn’t send the original unit back within a certain time frame). I’m also not very happy that the one year warranty will expire based on my original purchase date, even though I no longer have that original unit, and wish the warranty could be extended by at least two months (since I called to report the issue 2 months after purchase date).

Overall, I do love the monitor because I LOVE being able to see what my little man is doing and how he’s sleeping without physically going into his room. It’s so reassuring. There are just a few quirks that I’m not crazy about.

Not too shabby – Superfro –
The devices themselves aren’t too bad, the wireless could use some improvement. I had to switch channels because it interferes with my z-wave system. Luckily the channel b works. The wireless is sort of noisy, has lots of random pops and video glitches. The camera switches into night mode too early, only if its really really bright does it go back to color. Works great at night it looks real good in pitch black dark.

Overall not bad.

We’re Happy – Suzy – San Diego
We’ve had this monitor for nearly 7 months and we love it so far. We rarely get interference. All features work great and we find it to be very convenient. We love the fact that we can see our baby, without having to go in her room and risk disturbing her, to check if she’s really in need of something or if she’s just being noisy in her sleep. The microphone is so sensitive that we can hear her breathing.

Our only complaint is a design flaw – the green light on the front of the camera. It is VERY bright in the dark and shines right in the baby’s face, as that is where the camera is pointed. When she wakes up all she can see is this bright green dot relentlessly glaring in her face. We really don’t need that light to tell us the camera is on because we can check by turning on the monitor. But if it MUST be there, it could be positioned in the back of the camera and be a little less conspicuous.

Customer Reviews

Horrible static – Olive’s mom –
I had a Sound N Lights monitor with my first child six years ago and it was great, except when I tried to get it to work with this baby. I was not upset about the old one not working because we definitely got our money’s worth from it. I decided since I liked the first one so much that I would purchase the updated version. It is HORRIBLE!!!! There is constant static and the lights are all lit up when the baby is silent. I valued those lights the last time because I kept the monitor turned down so I didn’t hear every noise, but could see if the baby was crying. Don’t waste your money! I did not keep the box for this one because I trusted that it was going to be a good product. Now I am stuck with it and will have to spend more money to purchase a different monitor.

Don’t buy this!! – cathy –
We had received the older version of this monitor 3 years ago and liked it very much. When we became pregnant again I decided we would get another one. Well they changed the design, which I thought could only make it better, and now it’s awful! I’m upset that I did not keep the box and gift receipt bc Target won’t take it back and I really don’t have $$ to spend on another one. SERIOUSLY this one is useless though.

blah – jaxie –
not good. The batterry on one never worked. The battery on the other one worked for about 2 mos. Lots of static. Just seem to be very cheap.

This monitor sucks – JPB – Venezuela
This monitor sucks. I have used it for 3 weeks and its already driving me crazy. Dont waste your money. The interference is awfull.
Right now Im looking for a new one.

BébéSounds Angelcare Movement Sensor w. Sound Monitor w. Two Parents’ Units Review

Do you know it’s normal for newborns to stop breathing in their sleep? Most babies have the mechanism in their brain that turns the switch back on, to breathe again. However, some newborns do not have this switch. This is why there is SIDS. Also, did you know….if your baby did stop breathing and you, the parent, knew they stopped breathing-just going and picking them up or even touching them, will also trigger the brain to breathe again (as long as it is right away, as the alarm sounds).

This monitor is worth every penny. We only paid at our local Babies R Us. We did have to call around to a few locations to finally find one of these.

With my first child, I never got any sleep. She was born a few weeks early and was ill due to acid reflex, she couldnt keep any milk down. She was a breastfed baby, but was very weak. Back then, I didn’t know about this item, I wish I did. My husband and I would take turns to stay up all night with her, to make sure she was always breathing. As a first time mom, SIDS was a scary thing (still is, even with our second baby). I remember being the most tired I had been at any time in my life. Those first months should have been a lot more joyous.

With my second daughter. She was delivered at 35 weeks (preemie) and was a perfectly healthy baby. However, any type of preemie has an increased chance of SIDS. My preemie still thought she was in my womb and would not wake up at all for the first month at home. She was in a sleeping coma. She wouldn’t even want to wake up to eat. I was very worried about her 20 hours of sleeping all day/night. The first few days home I would watch her sleep all night and never sleep myself. By the 3rd day of this, I couldn’t handle the no sleep thing, so I read about this item and had to buy it.

LIFE SAVER PRODUCT ALERT!! Get this! It’s worth every penny.

Once my husband brought it home, we started to set it up right away. Our crib didn’t have a hard base under the mattress, so we measured the crib and went down to Home Depot, to have a slice of ply board/wood cut out to put under the mattress and above the frame/box (the wood piece only cost ). You MUST have a sturdy bottom to get accurate readings. Once the monitor is set up, you’ll need to adjust the level of sensitivity. It may be a bit tricky at first, but only should take a few adjustments. Also, you can have a constant ticking sound on, which is the baby breathing. Dont worry, you do not have to have this ticking sound on, just to know your baby is breathing. For a test run, without the ticking sound on, you may need to have your baby sleep for a nap, then take your baby out, after the nap, without turning or touching the monitor/alarm. Once you walk out of the room, the alarm should go off (because its not picking up any movement). You will know, the alarm is working, if the alarm is sounding, once your baby has been removed from crib. Be aware, if you are walking near the monitor, it is so sensitive, that it picks up footsteps, so the monitor will not trigger if are moving all around the crib.

THANK GOD, I found this item. There were a few times in the first few months, my daughter did stop breathing and the alarm went off. Even though, it’s most likely, she would have started breathing on her own. The sense of knowing and the peace of mind is WORTH having this item. I love this alarm. It’s a life saver.

Three Functions, Infinite Peace of Mind
The Angelcare Movement Sensor has three modes of use, enabling parents to use the sensor/sound monitor well into toddlerhood and beyond, if desired. With the Sound & Movement function, you can hear your baby’s sounds, see sound lights, and hear a “tic” sound with every movement the baby makes. If no movement is detected, the “tic” will stop and after 20 seconds the alarm will sound. In the Tic Off mode you will not hear the ticking sound with every movement. However, you will still hear the baby’s sounds and see sound lights, and your baby’s movement is still being detected. An alarm will still sound if absolutely no movement is detected for 20 seconds. And finally, with Sound Only, the movement sensor is disabled, but you will still be able to hear your baby’s sounds and see sound lights. In this mode, the Angelcare functions as a regular sound monitor. For many parents, just being able to hear the sighs and squeaks of the newest member of the family is reassurance enough. For those who need more input, for whatever reason, the additional sensory features of the Angelcare can be lifesaving.

How the Angelcare Movement Sensor Works
A sensor pad is placed under the center of baby’s crib mattress on a flat, hard surface. The sensor pad cord passes underneath the mattress entirely, exiting the crib in the corner. It is then plugged into the jack of the nursery unit transmitter. The nursery unit can be plugged into an electrical outlet or it can operate with four AAA batteries. The same goes for the parents’ unit receivers (two parents’ units included). Turn the parents’ units on by selecting either channel A or B. Make sure they’re set to the same channel as the nursery unit. Set the nursery unit to the desired mode (Sound & Movement, Tic Off, or Sound Only). You may leave one parents’ unit in your bedroom and carry the other with you as you move about the house and yard. Now, depending on the function you’ve selected, you’ll be able to keep track of your baby’s every sound and movement.

Sound Lights
Indicator lights on an LED sound bar (on the parents’ unit) allow you to “see” your baby’s sounds if background noises prevent you from hearing baby. As baby’s sounds get louder, more lights illuminate.

Optional “Tic” Feature
When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement, it will continuously tick with every movement your baby makes. If no movement is detected by the sensor pad beneath baby’s mattress, the ticking will stop.

Movement Indicator Light
The movement indicator light is located only on the nursery unit. When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement or Tic Off, the movement indicator light will flash green with baby’s every movement. The flashing green light will let you know that movement is being detected, which will allow you to check on a sleeping baby in the dark.

False Alarms
False alarms are possible with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, especially if instructions have not been followed to a “t”. Make sure to turn off the nursery unit after you’ve taken baby out of the crib. Also, once baby starts being more mobile, she may roll right off the sensor pad area of the mattress. A troubleshooting guide in the instruction manual gives other solutions to false alarms.

What’s in the Box
Angelcare Movement Sensor includes movement sensor pad, nursery sound monitor, two parents’ units, instruction manual, and three AC adapters. Twelve AAA batteries are required (not included).–Emilie Coulter

Customer Reviews

Core functionality – five stars; Other “features” – one star – Heather Thomas –
Ultimately I bought this as a breathing monitor… and it works perfectly. We had two false alarms and both were when my son was sleeping deeply (very light breaths) after having wedged himself all the way to one end of the crib. As the instructions (and others) have pointed out… you will need a piece of wood or something sturdy to set it on under the crib. Ours was set at the perfect sensitivity straight out of the box, but you should run some tests with the baby out of the crib to see if the alarm goes off. I found that if I had the ceiling fan on the highest setting, the vibration was enough to prevent the monitor for working properly. All in all, the breathing monitor functionality (the pad and the alarm unit it connects to) is very easy to set up, and reliable. I wouldn’t change a thing.

However the other advertised features seemed to be poorly designed afterthoughts. The tic funtion is annoying in the room… I’d love to just be able to have the parent unit lights flick instead of having to make it tic and then “see” the tics through as audio parts of the monitor. Speaking of audio monitor, this one is very staticy and lacks the feature of others (like radio silence unless there’s noise on the other end). I already had an excellent baby monitor when I bought this so I just continued to use that.

Overall, I think 0 for just the breathing monitor functionality was totally worth it for my piece of mind (and therefore sleep). I’d buy it again (although I’d also by my other sound only monitor as well).

This may have saved my son’s life! – Melissa – Chicago, IL
I was taking a nap in the room with my son’s crib, when the alarm went off. I jumped up and ran to the crib and he was not breathing. No chest rising, no movement. I screamed and poked and prodded him until he started to breathe and awaken. Wether he was just in a very, very deep sleep or wether he was not going to breathe again, I don’t know and I don’t want to know. They say that when they enter very deep sleep like that is when they stop breathing. To me, it appeared he was not breathing. Every night we slept with this monitor on, it gave us tremendous peace of mind. I would NEVER be without one of these. We are now expecting our second child and I will be purchasing one again. (We took our last one on vacation with us and something happened to the sensor pad in the luggage. It lasted a long, long time, but it didn’t last through baggage on the airlines. I would recommend packing it in the carry-on next time)
This product is worth every penny.

Only baby product you’ll need – le8 – MI
this is the only baby product you’ll need beyond your basics… If there’s anything you’re going to splurge on, let it be this product. This monitor gives you the peace of mind that your child is alright… it’s my only sense of sanity. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve jumped out of bed when my son was a baby and slept for more than an hour or 2 without crying, however, I learned to trust the monitor and that gave me a whole new sense of ease. When I would wake up at night, I would have the comfort that my son is ok since the monitor is on. It does truly work, the few times we’ve picked up my son out of his crib forgetting to turn it off it will sound as soon as it doesn’t sense the baby movement. The other thing to consider, if anyone were to ever break in to your house somehow and were to grab your baby, then at least you would immediatley wake up to the alarm when the heart beat is no longer detected. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. This is the only gift I will give you new moms even if it’s not on their registry… they’ll thank me later for it.

This is an exceptionally easy-to-use video baby monitor. Plug in the camera and point it where you want it, turn on the monitor, and you’re good to go. No complicated menus, no fuss.

Pros:

- Great value – this is a very reasonable price.

- Secure digital transmission that cannot be picked up by the neighbors.

- Good picture image. You can see better the closer the camera is to the baby (obviously), so you’re going to get a better image of a sleeping face if the camera is closer rather than mounted on the other side of the room.

- Night vision displays a surprisingly good image, in my opinion.

- Rechargeable lithium ion battery with excellent battery life.

- To accomplish night vision, there is a ring of blue light around the outside edge of the camera. This is an unobtrusive light that should not keep baby awake.

- No flashing lights or anything else on the camera to distract baby.

- Easy to position – just place it and angle the camera – no need for it to be mounted.

- Now comes with a bracket for wall mounting if you want to do that.

- Has a “vox” control that allows you to have the sound and image off until a sound triggers the camera and sound to come back on at the monitor. Good if you have this in your bedroom at night.

- Good transmission from upstairs to downstairs on opposite end of large house, as well as to the backyard.

- Shows transmission signal strength on the monitor just like your cell phone.

- Monitor screen tilts to various angles, so you can put it on the coffee table and adjust it for viewing. Will fit in most pockets.

- Because it really is easy to make this camera mobile (even with the wall mount, it just snaps in), it’s useful for parents who don’t have baby sleeping in a crib in a separate room. It can be used to watch while baby naps or plays, or if baby goes to bed before you in a co-sleeping situation (obviously, also good for toddlers). It’s not limited to crib-mount or wall-mount, so it’s functional for a variety of uses.

- Will cycle through channels if you have more than one camera set up.

- Has an internet connection option that you have to buy separately, and which comes with a monthly usage fee. Might be useful if you are operating a daycare and want parents to be able to observe, though?

- Has an AV output to connect to a TV, if you wanted to see baby on the big screen. I haven’t tried this, but it might work with your TV’s picture-in-picture.

Cons

- The sound is terrible, though this does seem to be a persistent problem for video monitors. The microphone is on the base of the camera and does not point in the direction of the camera, so you are picking up ambient noise rather than noise from the direction of the camera, which could be part of this problem. You will not be able to hear your baby breathing with this camera. It seems to have technology that mutes out low-level repetitive sounds so that you’re not getting a lot of noise on the monitor, but this makes the audio from baby’s room eerily silent. I had baby asleep in a room with the radio on low, and could not hear the radio even with the monitor volume turned up to max. Oddly, though, I could hear all kinds of sounds from the house through the monitor, even when those sounds did not originate from baby’s room. It’s extremely weird to hear myself pop open a can of soda in the living room through the monitor, but not be able to hear the radio playing in baby’s room. You will be able to hear baby start to cry, but I’d rather hear when baby starts flopping around in bed or making early signs of waking up, so that I can maybe soothe him before he’s into full-on crying mode.

- If you want to use the VOX option, you need to turn it on at the camera, not on the monitor, and it’s on the bottom of the camera base. This is not user-friendly, because in my experience you probably want to actively watch baby sleeping while you’re awake, and then switch to VOX when you go to sleep, but probably do not want to risk waking baby by going into the room to switch the camera over to VOX.

- Would be nice if it had a belt clip. Even though I view it by putting it on a table or counter, for the most part, it’s annoying that I can’t clip it to me while carrying laundry or walking outside to the yard.

- You do need to remember to turn the volume up each time you turn on the monitor. I get why the volume is always reduced to low when the monitor comes on, because I do like check on the monitor that the camera is positioned right, and you’d get significant feedback that would wake the baby if the volume were up on the monitor. But if you have the camera wall-mounted or always in the same place, I could see that this might be annoying. I do think the camera is advertised as being “mobile,” and we do tend to set it up in various locations (even just to point at baby playing in living room while my back is turned making dinner), so this is not a big problem, but it might be nice if the volume reset were an option triggered by a button on the monitor.

- There is some static noise in the picture with the night vision that can sometimes look like baby moving out of the corner of your eye. This is a minor annoyance.

- The battery indicator on the monitor is a bit weird, there’s a red light that will start flashing when the battery is low, but the battery indicator on the screen sometimes still shows a mostly full charge.

- Displays a flashing “no signal/VOX mute” message (white letters on black screen) when the camera is off or on VOX mute. On the pro side, it’s good to know that your monitor isn’t dead. I can see that if you had this in your room at night, though, it might get annoying and you’d probably want to turn it away from you. This one’s a toss-up. From a safety standpoint, I think it’s good that they have this display, so you don’t assume that the screen is black because nothing is going on in baby’s room and fail to notice that the monitor’s battery died.

Mobi Mobicam Digital Wireless Video Monitor Overview

The company that has won a plethora of parenting and innovation awards is answering the call of parents across the country, who are asking for more expandability, more security, and less interference. Mobi Technologies delivers by introducing the greatest baby monitor of all time: MobiCam Digital. NEW DigiLock Wireless with (FHSS) technology prohibits any other monitor from watching and listening into your personal systems, keeping your family safe and secure. Because it blocks out all outside transmissions, it illuminates extra noise and does not interfere with WiFi routers and cordless phones. Powerful 450 foot transmission range offers more flexibility and mobility for parents who have work to get done around the house. Internet capable with the MobiCam Internet Kit (sold separately) allows parents away at work or on vacation watch their child from their computer or mobile device. Amazing Night Vision can see up to 30 feet in complete darkness! Expandable up to 3 Cameras giving parents the flexibility of having a camera in each room and not having to continually move equipment. Watch multiple children or rooms simultaneously with automatic camera scanning option. Voice activated picture and sound with “Auto Mute” keeps the LCD screen and speakers off until there is noise in the room. 8 hour built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery pack is included with the monitor. This high end battery charges faster, lasts longer and weighs less. Unlike other rechargeable batteries used in monitors, Lithium Ion batteries do not have a charging memory. Built-in night light can be turned on or off as needed or can be set to auto mode which only turns the night light on when the room is dark. Audio/Video output on the monitor can be connected to any recording device or television. Recording gives parents the opportunity to record those special moments in their child’s lives and to ensure their child’s safety while they are away.

Customer Reviews

Excellent – Alienation –
This is the best monitor I have bought to date. No interference from other wireless appliances. I would recommend this unit to anyone that has a baby, child or for an elderly relative that you need to keep an eye on.

Another disappointing video monitor – Lauren C –
I had high hopes for this monitor, but unfortunately it was just as disappointing as the rest. I returned my first unit after about a month because it would randomly restart itself – which creates a major problem because the volume goes to zero when it restarts. This is a really dangerous design flaw, and I hope MOBI will fix the issue in their new units. Anyhow, I returned it to Amazon for an identical replacement. The monitor seemed fine and didn’t seem to have the same issues as the first until this week. I’ve only had the new unit for a little over 3 months. I would look for another option.

Lacks critical safety features – Anthony Burokas – Philadelphia, PA United States
The image quality is better than I expected. The range is phenomenal- several houses away, still a picture. Cost was good. Easy to use.

BUT:

If the transmitter goes off (for whatever reason) or goes out of range, there is no audible notification.

If the battery dies in the receiver, there is no audible notification.

I called the company- they say the power indicator goes orange when the battery is low. The problem is I do not stare at the receiver the entire time, I’m getting other things done.

So you THINK your child is okay, the monitor is quiet, only to find out they’ve been screaming their head off for who knows how long because this monitor system failed you.

Moreover: there’s no belt clip for the receiver, so you have to put it in your pocket- can’t see it go dead.

Moreover, the volume resets to zero every time you turn it on, and sometimes, on its own.

I keep it plugged in next to the bed, so I don’t really use the battery too much, but I agree that it’s a problem with the monitor. (The only problem, I would say.) My battery only lasts 30-45 minutes if the unit is unplugged.

That aside, I love this monitor. I can see whether or not it’s worth going upstairs when my daughter makes noise and when she wakes up in the morning or from naptime, I can start soothing music from my receiver to her transmitter. It definitely helps ease the wake-up period.

Customer Reviews

Great at first, but quickly deteriorates in quality – Brian Bernardo –
We picked this specific monitor because of the brand and it was one of the more expensive ones at the store but still not breaking the bank (we’ve been burnt before by trying to save and pick the cheapest item…learning the hard way that you get what you pay for). Great looking product with awesome features, but within about 3-4 months the product started to deteriorate. First the picture began flickering…next thing you know the picture began freezing. With that came the audio not working periodically. The monitor receiver would be on the night table next to my wife, and I would hear the baby cry through the hallway without the monitor picking it up! It works periodically, but should be more dependable…for atleast the 1st year! I thought that maybe it was just mine, but after researching other reviews, learned it is a problem with the product.

Unless you get it second hand, I do not recommend this product.

No Battery Life; No charge; Disfunctioning Piece of Garbage! – Lyber8ed –
But let me tell you how I really feel:

I have purchased several batteries not a single one have held a charge. I have taped the cord onto the monitor in the hopes of creating a more stable connection. Alas, I am still awakened in the middle of the night with the lovely sounds of BLEEEEP!!! BLEEEEEP!!! BLEEEEEP!!! BLEEEEP!!!! “LOW BATTERY” is what it is trying to tell you – I am NOT deaf thank you very much! I am awakened enough times by the baby in the middle of the night without an additional noise in my ear to awaken me! I swear I jumped clear to the ceiling! I can hear that $%%&#&* sound from two floors away on the other side of the house!!! Why would it need to be THAT loud – please tell me? DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! THE COMPANY DOES NOT HELP YOU. IT IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECOGNIZED IN THE TESTING PHASE!! Quickly – navigate away from this product advertisement – go to another product, any product has to be better than this one. Run while you still have 0 in your pocket! Run, I tell you!

Better ones out there… – Nash09 – Houston, Texas
I have used this monitor since day 1 with our now 7 month old son and would steer you towards other devices. The battery life on the handheld monitor is TERRIBLE, lasting at most 20 minutes. I have a feeling that is because you can not turn off the video portion of the monitor if you only want the audio portion like most of the monitors out there. The video at night illuminates our room and makes it hard to have as dark as we wish. We actually turn it over on its face so it doesn’t shine at night, but we can still hear little one if he cries. Actually viewing the monitor and hearing the baby is not an issue at all. The lullaby feature is nice and has worked once or twice when I’ve tried to soothe him from afar.

most of my friends are using the summertime brand and highly rec’d it. I am actually considering replacing this one with a summertime monitor since we’ll use this for many more months and with the next baby too.

So, all in all, DON’T waste your money…go with something a little better for a little more money. It’s worth it.

This unit is a little pricey, but I’m glad we got it. We use the LCD screen in our bedroom at night and use the handheld around the house. There are 2 channels to avoid interference. Only one of the channels will work for us. I believe the wifi in the house may interfere with the other channel, but that’s the reason for the separate channels. There is some occasional mild interference with the video from other sources when moving around with the handheld, but nothing major. The range is great. We can go outside around the house with the handheld and the signal is strong. The color of the video is average at best, but it gets the job done. Volume and brightness can be adjusted on both the LCD screen and the handheld which is nice. LED lights on both monitors show the level of sound the camera is picking up so that you can ’see the sounds’ even if the volume is turned down. The camera itself is great. Infared lighting makes the video as clear in total darkness as it is in the light. Infared video is in black and white of course. The most impressive part of the system is the sound sensitivity of the camera. It picks up every whisper in the room. Its almost too sensitive because it picks up other sounds from around the house as well.
On the negative side…the handheld video times out too often, requiring you to constantly press the button on top to turn it back on. It is understandable to conserve the battery, but I would have liked it to go off a little less often. Also, the ambient “white noise” on the LCD monitor takes some getting used to when right next to the bed. Turning the volume down fixes that problem, but obviously you can’t hear the baby as well with the volume lower.
Overall, it’s a good monitoring system and I would recommend it.

Customer Reviews

Couldn’t Get a Signal!! – TargetCustomer –
In theory this seems like it would be a great baby monitor – if … we could get a signal. The handheld unit hardly worked. If we got a picture, then we got no sound – if we got sound, there was no picture. The “color” on the monitor was very washed out and was practically black and white. The TV monitor only worked in certain areas of a room and again couldn’t get sound/picture at the same time. We returned the product. It is way too expensive to not work properly. We will be looking for a digital system.

great, but not so great – Wave –
We loved the idea of being able to watch the baby while he was asleep but only after 2 months of use the video monitor stopped working.
Also if you live in a house with concrete walls be prepared for a lot of static and also not so clear image.
We’ll be asking for a replacement, and hope that the next one works for at least a few years!!

Better than not having one – jaxmommy –
The good thing about this product is that it was easy for me to understand how it works and to get it up and running (I shy away from any technical equipment) The not so good thing is the reception is fuzzy on either the monitor or the handheld. This doesn’t happen all the time, just when I walk near the monitor. The other not so good thing is that the picture is not always in color. I haven’t figured that out yet. It could be a simple fix. But a great thing about this set is that it has an awesome microphone. I can hear every single gurgle, swallow and movement and this is priceless. This is my 1st purchase of an infant monitor set, so I don’t have a basis to comparing. I hope this helps.

Awesome camera, great sound, great picture, very durable, very affordable, wonderful product! As the paranoid first-timer, I was scared my little man would stop breathing due to SIDS…rolling over…pulling the cover over his head…being too close to a pillow…etc..etc..etc.! I am SO GLAD we have the video instead of just sound. We co-sleep, so when he naps it is in our bed as well – he tends to roll and twist in his sleep but if I use a wedge he just gets angry he can’t move and wakes up! Unfortunately, he hasn’t ever been a swaddle baby. This has saved us lots of stress and lets our little guy sleep in peace.
We have used it for about 8 months now. I use it constantly. It has been through all kinds of abuse. The baby has snagged the camera a few times to put it through his own tests and the monitor has been knocked off the arm of the couch or table by one of our cats many, many, times…it keeps on working great. Extremely durable and very clear picture. I will be getting my friends these for their baby showers!

Customer Reviews

Pleasantly Surprised – Mimi –
I was very hesitant to buy this monitor but I needed one quickly (my son was coming home from the hospital) and after reading all the reviews I settled on this one. It works great! The sound is awesome, you hear everything! I mean it’s not perfect (hence the four stars. The screen flickers sometimes and depending on how close place the monitor by another electronic product it makes this high pitched sound) but it works great for me. I say take a chance if you’re considering buying this one.

I wish I had bought it sooner – K. Littlejohn – New Mexico
I really love this monitor. I have been uncomfortable ever since I moved my son into his own room because I can’t SEE what’s making him cry. Has he got an arm or leg caught or is he just crying because he doesn’t want to go to sleep? Now I enjoy watching him go to sleep with this great monitor. My husband and I watch and laugh as he plays with his stuffed rabbit and watches his hang on aquarium toy until he falls asleep. It’s this great window into that part of his world. It’s really so comforting to me and I wish I had bought it several months ago when we made the transition to putting him to sleep in his own room. A great product. The picture is super clear during the day and still quite clear at night. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn’t have a subtle “dial” volume control but more of a push button type and the lowest volume is still really loud. I would prefer to fine tune the volume more but other than that, no complaints.

Its not just for babies – Brad D. Johnson – Burleson, TX
We bought this product to help with my mother. We wanted to keep her home for her hospice care. Due to confusion we were unable to leave her alone safely while we took care of her many chores. This product was a LIfe Saver, the Picture day and night was crystal clear and sound just as good. We were able to leave the room while continuing to keep our mom safe. most recommended
